Modelling a tyre + wheel
Here’s a test render of a little project I’m working on for my 3d module at uni. It’s an alloy wheel from a Lotus Elise S2 wearing Bridgestone Potenza R040s (although the side wall reads R050!) It’s still a work in progress but I’m fairly happy with since its my first proper go at a detailed wheel/tyre combo.
The scene is lit by a skylight with an area light and a mr Physical sky in the environment slot. The chrome and metal materials are basic ProMaterials in 3ds max and the tyre is a more complicated shader that I built that uses a gradient ramp to blend two materials; one for the sidewall and one for the tread. I’ve also been experimenting with the logarithmic exposure control to get some life into my images.
