Hi, I read through the post but unfortunately im still not too sure what to do. My PC is connected wirelessly to my Netopia router, my xbox is then connected to my pc, I have ICS enabled and everything worked perfectly, I could play xbox live fine. For some reason now it doesnt seem to work anymore, my xbox cannot connect to live.
Everytime I go to connect I receive the error:
“Can’t connect to your network hardware using a static IP address”
I originally had my xbox IP set to automatic but this received the error:
“Cannot obtain IP address”
I went to my pc and “used ipconfig /all” and wrote down my IP address, DNS server, Default gateway and Subnet Mask, I set my xbox conifg to manual, entered these settings but I kept geting the static IP error…I would really
appreciate some help.
The only other info I can give you is this:
On my router I enter expert mode, go to configure->connection. The static IP address shown is 0.0.0.0.
My DHCP server start and end is as follows:
Start:192.168.1.1
ENd:192.168.1.253

Please I have been trying for weeks to solve this problem, any help would be great.

Your post made sense, so I went ahead and changed my IP, but whenever I try ticking the share box the same error comes up, nothin was fixed, do you have any idea what could be happening. I’ve tried bridging the connections and still nothin.

Hi Ryan,

You have changed your Routers IP address but it’s still in the same ‘subnet mask’, and since you’re automatically assigning IP addresses it could be assigning the IP address you need to keep free.

Try changing your router to 192.168.2.1 instead and then update any other adapters so they will work with that configuration.

Hi Eddy, I’m glad to see someone having the same problem as me actually writing something that makes sense. My wireless router is way too distant to run cable, so I thought connecting it to my PC would be a breeze. Alas ICS defaults to the same IP the router, and bridging cuts out my internet connection as well.

However, I’ve tried changing my default IP my netgear router to 192.168.0.20, and ensured that all over adaptors are set to obtain the IP address automatically (previously I had them set to static IP’s), but every time I try to enable ICS it tells me that the required IP address is already being used on the network, and that it cannot proceed.

Any ideas?

Hi Craig, as your modem is a usb mobile one I don’t think it will have a dhcp function as this is usually found on routers.

You will probably have to assign the pc and xbox manual IP addresses. Assuming your pc is connected to your xbox via network cable, I would set your pc’s IP address manually to something like 192.168.1.2 and then set you xbox manually to be 192.168.1.3. Once you’ve done this I think you will have to try bridging the two connections or try ICS.

im using a usb mobile modem to connect to the internet but im not sure how to enable dhcp on the modem. so whenever i run the tests on xbox settings it keeps automatically setting an ip address from a different laptop so it keeps saying ip address failed. please can you help!
